This Monadnock Region encompasses the City of Keene and 22 towns of Cheshire County. It has been described as the Currier and Ives corner of New Hampshire. Geographically situated in the heart of New England, residents and visitors have easy access to and from several popular metropolitan areas including Boston,MA, Hartford, CT, Montreal, Canada, Portland, ME, or New York.

The Monadnock region is the location of many uniquely New England sites. It is the home for the second most climbed mountain in the world - Mount Monadnock. The 3,165-foot summit offers views as far as the Boston skyline. The town of Swanzey has the distinction of having four of the remaining 55 covered bridges in New Hampshire. The spans (all of which cross the Ashuelot River) are: the Cresson Bridge; the Carlton Bridge; the West Swanzey Bridge; and the Slate Bridge.

The National Trust calls Keene a "Currier &Ives landscape come to life, where pristine local landmarks, Revolutionary War reenactments and bucolic rolling hills provide a perfect spot for family fun". Although its population is small, Keene, N.H. (population 22,500 ) is a giant when it comes to history. Because so many of the town's earliest structures have remained unchanged for more than two centuries, it's easy to get lost in time.

Hiking, climbing, cycling and skiing are enjoyed both by energetic locals and by the many visitors who drive up from Boston and New York. The major destinations are Lake Winnipesaukee in Belknap County, and Conway, Lincoln and Franconia in the mountains further north. Mount Washington is in Coos County. The lakes, islands and snowcapped peaks themselves are spectacular. And some say that the area around Cheshire County and Keene, NH is the "Currier and Ives" America has come to love.
